Queens seek 10th victory

CLINTON — Reaching a double-digit win total and moving within one win of the state tournament are on the line tonight when Clinton plays host to Davenport Central in girls soccer.

The Class 3A Region 7 semifinal is set for 6 p.m. at Coan Field. The River Queens enter the game with a 9-8 record.

Central (5-7) won the regular-season matchup between the teams 3-1 in Davenport. Morgan Teel scored twice for the Blue Devils, Analise Keller had the other goal and freshman goalkeeper Oliviana Kramer made four saves. Senior Hannah Dehner scored Clinton’s goal.

Maquoketa advances

MAQUOKETA — Taylor Bickford scored two goals Tuesday to lead Maquoketa to a 2-1 victory against 15th-rated Marion in an Iowa Class 2A Region 7 semifinal girls soccer match.

Kelsi Lange assisted on the first goal, and Amy Wirth got the assist on the second. Chiara Atienza made 11 saves as the Cardinals’ goalkeeper.

Holli Jones scored Marion’s lone goal, and goalkeeper Abby Phillips made 13 saves.

The win allowed Maquoketa (11-5) to avenge a 1-0 regular-season loss to Marion (10-5) on May 15 in Marion.

Maquoketa will face North Scott for the regional title and berth in the state tournament at 6 p.m. Monday in Eldridge. The Lancers (14-4), ranked second in the state in Class 2A, defeated Davenport North 2-0 in Tuesday’s other semifinal.
