Damage unknown to Grafitti's

Fire required three alarms

CLINTON — The exact damage amount is unknown for a fire that broke out early Wednesday at Grafitti Bar and Grill, 2442 Camanche Ave.

Former manager Patrick McCusker received a phone call Wednesday morning from John Dornbush, upset by the fire at the local bar and grill.

“I told him to calm down and we’ll figure it out,” McCusker said. McCusker previously managed the bar for a brief period for Dornbush.

Clinton firefighters were dispatched at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday to a fire at Grafitti’s with 11 personnel, two engines, one ladder truck, two ambulances and one command vehicle. A second and third alarm were sounded and the Camanche Fire Department responded for mutual aid.

Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes and many left before 8 a.m., with some remaining to handle hot spots. The fire was contained to the back of the structure, where there is damage to the roof, on the west side of the building. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Dornbush declined to make any comments to the Clinton Herald, with McCusker saying Dornbush was having a difficult day and was working on what to do next. Dornbush did post a comment on the bar’s Facebook page.

“Damages are unknown at this time and the cause is being investigated,” Dornbush wrote. “We will let you all know what is determined as we find out.”

Customers and friends have been sharing support and stories on the “Grafitti Bar N Grill” Facebook page. The messages are filled with concern for Dornbush and the future of the business.

Jason Heinitz has provided photography and video services for the bar’s live entertainment since 2007 or 2008. He could not believe it when a cousin told him about the fire.

“I was just hoping the fire would be contained quickly and that it wasn’t going to be a total loss,” Heinitz said. “After seeing it this morning, I hope it will be repaired or rebuilt.”

In his Facebook post, Dornbush thanked everyone for offering support.

“Hopefully we are able to recover from this tragic event,” Dornbush said.
