News Reds manager to keynote Hot Stove Banquet

CLINTON — Bryan Price, who recently was hired to manage the Cincinnati Reds, will serve as the keynote speaker at the 2014 Hot Stove Banquet on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, in Clinton.

The Clinton LumberKings, in conjunction with the Friends of Riverview Stadium, announced the date and speaker for the event Friday. The annual outing again will be held at the Eagle Point Park Lodge in Clinton.

Price’s wife, the former Judy Sattler, is from Clinton.

Price was named the Reds manager on Oct. 22 after spending the previous four seasons as Cincinnati’s pitching coach. Before joining the Reds, he was the pitching coach for the Seattle Mariners (2000-2005) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (2006-2009).

Under Price, the Reds have had one of the best pitching staffs in the major leagues over the past several seasons. He has had a large hand in the development of Mat Latos, Johnny Cueto and flame-throwing Aroldis Chapman. The Reds had the fourth-lowest ERA in all of baseball in 2013 and the most strikeouts in the National League.

Price was drafted three times in the early 1980s and eventually signed with the California Angels after he was selected in the eighth round of the 1984 draft. He pitched for the University of California at Berkeley and is still the school’s all-time leader with 374 2/3 innings pitched and is a member of the school’s hall of fame.

The Hot Stove Banquet will also include a silent auction and a raffle featuring signed items from members of the 2013 LumberKings, along with Seattle’s top prospects D.J. Peterson, Taijuan Walker and Victor Sanchez. All proceeds of the auction and raffle will go toward the non-profit Friends of Riverview Stadium organization.

Doors open with a 6 p.m. social hour and dinner, with the program slated to start at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children (age 12 and under), meal and program included. Tickets will also be available at the door at $30 for adults, $20 for children. Contact the LumberKings’ main office at (563) 242-0727 to purchase tickets or contact any member of the LumberKings’ Board of Directors.
