CLINTON — The Clinton County Board of Directors have directed County Attorney Mike Wolf to vote in their place during today’s Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency meeting.
The CCASWA board will discuss and vote on a proposal made by Clinton representative Jennifer Graf. For the past six months, Graf has wanted to have either the per capita or tipping fee costs for the landfill lowered, offering Clinton citizens some cost relief.
During today’s meeting, Graf is proposing the per-person allocation is decreased from $10 to $5, commencing with the 2014.
With all three supervisors attending the Iowa State Association of Counties conference today, Wolf was authorized to represent the board at the meeting. The board made its opinion clear on the issue.
“Even though it’s going to be a couple of $100,000 reduction, eventually it’s going to catch up to us and we’ll have to come back and re-set them again,” Chairman John Staszewski said.
Wolf added that with an organization like the CCASWA, it is important to plan for new cell space, cell closure and other unknown expenses. He said that if the rate remained at $10 for at least 10 years, despite inflation, it was as if it had decreased.
