CHS all-class reunion slated

CLINTON — A weekend full of River Kings and Queens spirit will start next weekend as Clinton High School alumni gather for the first all-class reunion.

The reunion will take place over Labor Day weekend; classmates from across the decades will start their celebration by watching as the inaugural class of the CHS Hall of Fame is inducted and the new field turf sees its first game.

Reunion organizers Jeanette Petersen and Bruce Kamer toyed with the idea of a reunion where members of all CHS classes could coalesce. It was inspired by Lyons High School, which already hosts a similar gathering.

The idea didn’t come to fruition until it was announced that outstanding individuals from CHS history would be recognized this fall.

“Bruce Kamer and I had talked about an all-class reunion before, but we weren’t ready for it. When I learned about the Hall of Fame, I called him and said, ‘maybe now’s the time.’”

The first class in the CHS Hall of Fame includes eight former CHS athletes, four coaches and two others who made significant contributions to Clinton High athletics over the years.

The group of athletes includes Duke Slater, Carl Nelson, Chuck Vogt, Ken Ploen, Gary Morris, Richard Farwell, Dan Roushar and Dan Knight.

Coaches in the inaugural Hall class are Bill Holsclaw, Howard Judd, Bob Lueders and Max Lynn. The contributors are Bill Holmstrom and Hank Dihlman.

“We really hope and encourage people to come out. There are a lot events going on that weekend from the football game to inducting the inaugural class to breaking in the new turf and the all-class reunion,” Clinton Activities Director Gary Lueders said. “We certainly hope people will come from both in and out of town to see all the exciting things going on at Clinton High School.”
