Clinton man charged with assault, false imprisonment

CLINTON — A Clinton man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend Sunday and preventing her from leaving his apartment.

Travis L. Walters, 33, 2604 N. Fourth St., apartment 2004, is charged with domestic assault and false imprisonment. He was released after posting posting bond. His preliminary hearing is set for 9:15 a.m. Aug. 27.

According to court documents, officers were dispatched Sunday morning in reference to a domestic assault and heard yelling coming from a window in the defendant’s apartment upon arrival. An officer heard the victim telling Walters to let her out on at least three occasions during the short time he was standing there, according to the affidavit.

Observing the victim and Walters a the window, the officer saw her put her hand to her mouth several types, wiping something from her mouth and looking at it, according to court documents. He went to the door and identified himself as a police officer.

Court documents continue that the victim told police she and Walters had recently broken up after living together for almost nine months, and she was at the apartment to collect her belongings. She was attempting to carry some of her belongings from the apartment when Walters stopped her and closed the door.

The victim added that when she attempted to push him out of the way, he struck her in the mouth with a closed fist, according to court documents. The officer noticed she was bleeding from her lip, the documents state.

The victim said Walters held her against her will for approximately an hour before police arrived. According to the affidavit, her current boyfriend and another friend kept knocking on the door to get Walters to let her out, but he refused to let her leave until they could talk.
