Fitness club is expanding

CLINTON — Less than two years after opening, the Iron Horse Fitness Club is more than tripling their space by moving to the former Rodeo Saloon and Feedhouse.

Owners Ashley and Brad Gendreau, 31, of Thomson, Ill., will move by August from the location they currently rent on 232 Fifth Ave. South to the former bar and restaurant they are purchasing at 1801 Lincolnway.

The husband and wife team said the location, partnered with the support and needs of their 530-plus members made this the ideal time to expand.

"We're doing really well. We've outgrown the space and this is the perfect layout," Brad said.

They are in the process of purchasing the building to turn it into a full-fitness plaza. They will add more equipment to their 24-hour-a-day facility, offer classes such as zumba, spinning and bootcamp, and continue with their protein and smoothie bar. They also will add a supplement store that can be accessed separate from the gym.

Members currently have 5,000 square feet of space in the Fifth Avenue South gym. In the new gym, members will have roughly 12,000 square feet to workout in, 4,500 for classes and 1,500 for the supplement store.

The couple, who owns the business along with Travis and Rhianon Gendreau, will close on the building in June and spend the following couple of months converting the space from saloon to one-stop fitness center that they say their members deserve.

"We're excited. Our members come first. Without the people joining and really coming on board we wouldn't be able to expand," Ashley said.

Memberships will be $30 a month for regular members and $15 a month for members 65 and older. Iron Horse also offers a number of corporate and student discounts.

"We want to bring health and fitness to everyone," Ashley said. "We have a real family atmosphere and affordable rates."

They also plan to use the outdoor space to host power-lifting and mixed martial arts shows.
