---- — CLINTON — The Clinton County Justice Coordinating Commission and the county’s Board of Supervisors are moving forward in trying to fill the justice coordinator position left empty by Brian McKenrick.
The two groups met this week to agree on a job description for the coordinator position, comparing two possible descriptions. The board preferred a copy prepared by Human Resources Consultant Paul Greufe. The supervisors felt this version was simpler and more flexible than the one prepared by McKenrick himself.
One of the sticking points for the supervisors was a section in the description prepared by McKenrick that states that a master’s degree is preferred. Supervisor Brian Schmidt said this could limit the amount of qualified applicants who might feel they were not welcome to apply. McKenrick disagreed.
“Your job description forecasts to prospective job applicants what the county values, what you’re looking for,” McKenrick said. “And by having master’s degreed preferred... you’re sending the signal that you value education.”
Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf suggested the CCJCC adopt the description created by Greufe for the time being, with the understanding it could be changed at a later date. The coalition agreed and approved that copy.
As part of this description, the coordinator will be required to plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate programs in the justice system. An applicant will be required to have a bachelor’s degree in either criminal justice, public administration or a closely related field and a minimum of three years of work.
After discussing the the position, the group agreed on a tentative salary range of $50,000 to $65,000 so that the CCJCC can move forward with the position. Wolf will prepare a resolution for the coalition to move forward with the proposed job description. The Board of Supervisors will consider whether to approve this resolution at its Monday meeting.
