---- — CLINTON — The Clinton Area Showboat Theatre is announcing the sixth annual Showboat Silent Auction beginning Aug.14.

Bids may be placed in the Showboat lobby during box office hours and when the lobby is open during performances.

Bidding may continue until the end of intermission of the final evening performance of “Almost, Maine” on Aug. 23.

Originally begun as an art auction, the Showboat Silent Auction has grown to become an important fundraiser for the non-profit CAST.

Coordinating the auction is CAST board member Tom McEleney.

“As we progress from year to year in collecting items for the silent auction, people and businesses are asking me when they may provide their donations,” McEleney said. “Everyone is very generous.”

The list of donated items includes a Yamaha Clavinova, $100 gift certificate for plants from RKR nursery in Morrison, a Boyd’s Collectible Doll, more than 75 gift cards and certificates, a child’s “bunch of balloons” table lamp, scrimshaw items, Waterford crystal pieces, Walt Disney framed, matted and numbered prints of Donald Duck and Jiminy Cricket, three magnificent “still life” paintings in turned wood and mahogany frames. There are also items such as a gold webbed ring with three embedded opals in it, and more than 20 baskets including some with Iowa football tickets, Notre Dame football tickets and

Chicago White Sox tickets. There are multiple stoneware items and many, many framed paintings, watercolors, prints, paper collages and riverboat prints, representing many by local artists.

A number of showboat-related items are available for bids, including a cookie jar in the shape of a Riverview Drive lighthouse with the Showboat’s new logo on it, a lighted porcelain showboat model, a ceramic showboat model, and a pewter plate depicting the early showboat “Rhododendron”.

The silent auction is open to everyone, not just theatre-goers, and with the wide variety of items available the auction is an opportunity to begin holiday gift shopping.

The box office is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.

The final show of the 2013 summer season, “Almost, Maine” runs from August 15-23. Tickets are still available at the box office, by calling 242-6760 or online at
