Albany man's barbecue business sets up along Clinton's river front

CLINTON — In the heart of summer there is always one thing close at hand — barbecue.

Hot sun and hot barbecue are summertime staples in the Midwest and Clinton is now home to a traveling barbecue business.

D’s Smokin’ Barbecue, owned and operated by Dan Hager, is the newest installment to the traveling food business along Riverview Drive.

Hager is serving up pulled pork sandwiches, barbecue chicken, ribs, brisket and a whole lot more.

“I’ve always loved cooking and I’ve been doing barbecue for years,” Hager said. “My friends finally convinced to me to do something with my food.”

Based out of Albany, Ill., Hager decided to bring his business to Clinton because of the foot traffic along Riverview Drive.

He began his barbecue catering out of a pop-up tent last year before he purchased his bright-red trailer at the beginning of the year.

“I really started pushing the business this year after I got the trailer,” said Hager, adding that he hopes to be at the river front everyday for the month of July.

Along with his food truck, Hager also caters wedding receptions, graduation parties, benefit parties and any size barbecue party.

He has also catered the recent Fulton Bluegrass Festival and will take part in Ribfest in Davenport this year.

The future of D’s Smokin’ BBQ depends on the reception Hager receives from Clinton residents.

“Once I get going and get some customers, I’ll start doing ribs and taking suggestions for what people want to eat,” Hager said.

Hager’s intention is to build his business and to bring some much needed attention to the Clinton river front.

“We have such a good space here, and it’s time we start to utilize what we have,” Hager said.
