---- — CLINTON — Two finalists have been selected in the search for Clinton's next city administrator: Clinton Finance Director and interim City Administrator Jessica Kinser and Joliet, Ill., Assistant City Manager Benjamin Benson.

The city administrator search committee announced the finalists Thursday. The group has been meeting since early this year to determine what kind of person they felt should fill the position, which was vacated when Jeff Horne resigned at the council's recommendation in November.

Kinser and Benson will undergo a day-long process in the next two weeks that includes meetings with business leaders and city staff, an evaluation, a tour, a community forum and ends with an interview with the City Council.

There will be a community forum for Benson from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 24, in council chambers at City Hall.

Benson will interview with the mayor and Council at 1 p.m. the same day.

Kinser's community forum will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, in council chambers at City Hall. Her interview with the council will be at 1 p.m. the same day.

Benson and Kinser were selected out of 17 applicants seeking the position. The City Administrator Search committee, made up of 11 community leaders, pared the list down to seven candidates.

Committee members then selected who they would like to present to the council for interviews. Until this point, the candidates have been referred to by number instead of name because of the process that Council members chose to hire a city administrator.

Instead of forming a committee consisting of council members, which was the process used to select Horne, the council decided to create the search committee. Council members hired Paul Greufe to lead the committee, keeping themselves separated from the process until it came time to interview the finalists.
