Changes made to enhance county courthouse security

Metal detectors, cameras are part of plan to make courthouse more secure

CLINTON — Security is being increased at Clinton County buildings with six security cameras to be installed in the courthouse.

The Clinton County Board of Supervisors approved the addition of a security camera system by Lectronics, Inc., at a bid of $11,365 at its Monday meeting.

The system can hold a total of 16 security cameras. Building Maintenance Manager Corey Johnson said they will begin by placing six cameras throughout the building to capture all of the main areas.

“It's just a good starting point until we decide where they all need to be put,” Johnson said.

The security camera system is just one of the recommendations for county security, Johnson said.

In January, a metal detector was put up in the entrance of the courthouse. Johnson and Clinton County Justice Coordinating Commission Coordinator Brian McKenrick expect the detectors to be running in April.

McKenrick is still working out all of the details for courthouse security. He is planning a press conference on the new security measures for next Monday afternoon.

More information on the conference will be released as it becomes available.

At the administration building, people will be required to go into the building through one main entrance by the reception desk.

During Monday’s meeting, the board approved contracting with Tri-City Electric Co. for the installation of an access control system at a cost of $24,870.
