CLINTON — Two local men have been charged with second-degree robbery, accused of attempting to rob a bank in Andover.
At 3 p.m. Friday, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an attempted bank robbery at the Clinton National Bank located at 4330 140th St., in Andover.
The caller was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect and the vehicle involved. At approximately 3:15 p.m. the vehicle was located in Clinton. The vehicle was stopped on Bluff Boulevard at the intersection of Terrace Drive. Officers from the Clinton Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Camanche Police Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa State Patrol were involved.
Taken into custody were driver, William Kassel, 33, 110 21st St., Trailer No. 6, Camanche, and passenger Jason Newsom, 35, of 500 20th Ave North, Clinton.
Both men have been charged with second-degree robbery, a Class C felony.
