Theft of Coca-Cola truck doomed from the start

CORSICANA, Texas —

A man from Dallas who stole an 18-wheel Coca-Cola tractor didn’t know it, but his efforts were doomed from the beginning.

Officials with the soft drink distributor were able to keep authorities updated on the truck’s location by use of a GPS tracking system, said Chris Williamson, a trooper with the state department of public safety.

Troopers caught up with the stolen cab just south of Corsicana, and began chasing the Coca-Cola truck south on Interstate 45, reaching speeds of about 70 miles an hour.

“A sheriff’s unit tried to ‘spike’ the truck, but it got around the spikes and onto the service road,” Williamson said.

Forced off the highway, the driver soon drove into a dead end.  “He came out with his hands up and laid on the ground,” Williamson said.
