East Central star commits to Ashford

CLINTON — Ashford University men’s basketball coach Andy Eberhart has announced the commitment of forward Trent Mussmann of Sabula, Iowa. Mussmann, a 6-foot-6 senior who was a Clinton Herald third-team all-area pick, signed a letter-of-intent on Friday.

Mussmann averaged a double-double in three of his four years at East Central. He finished his career earning second-team All-Big East Conference honors this season after averaging 15.8 points, 13.1 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots a game.

“We are very excited to be having Trent join our team,” Eberhart said. “He is a very good athlete that is coming off an outstanding high school career. I see him fitting into our system very well.”

Mussmann is the son of Jeff and Kris Mussmann. He is intending to major in secondary education while at Ashford.

The Saints also signed 5-10 junior-college transfer Mike Releford over the weekend. The recruiting class also includes point guard Lucas Mulholland of Mount Vernon.
