DEWITT — BOOM! – DeWitt’s philanthropic group for women – will meet at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 9 at TYCOGA Winery, north of DeWitt, to select a recipient for its latest round of grants.

BOOM! seeks to improve the quality of life in the Central DeWitt School District communities by enriching and supporting local non-profit organizations. BOOM! has set a goal of enlisting 100 members, which would equate to a $10,000 donation each quarter to help carry out the mission of a particular group or project. The donation represents a commitment of about $1 per day per participant.

Each attendee comes with a check for $100 and has an opportunity to nominate a worthy cause of her choice. Three names will be drawn, and the nominators will have five minutes to make a case for choosing their organization. The entire group votes for one of the three nominees, and the winner receives all the checks for that evening.

This is a great opportunity to network with other women and do a good deed in the community. Everyone is welcome to participate.

The quarterly grants have benefitted the Central Education Foundation, the DeWitt Referral Center, the Summer Lunch Box program, the Central DeWitt Building Trades program, the new swine barn at the Clinton County Fairgrounds, Scott Kaczinski Family Music Ministries, Friends of the Frances Banta Waggoner Community Library and the Central DeWitt Music Boosters. Each organization has used its funding to further projects that improve the local community.

The most recent recipient is the DeWitt Hospital Auxiliary, which received more than $1,100 to aid in its financial support for Genesis Medical Center – DeWitt.

BOOM! is open to all interested people. Those who would like to participate but cannot do so at the $100 level are encouraged to become a BOOM! Buddy by teaming up with another like-minded woman or women. For example, four women may give $25 each or two women can give $50. Checks are made out to the winning organization and are tax deductible.

Those who cannot attend the meeting may send their check with another person or place it in an envelope marked BOOM! and drop it off at DeWitt Bank and Trust Co., Attn. Paul Hill.

Refreshments are not provided but will be available for purchase.
