CLINTON— On Saturday, July 22, The Salvation Army of Clinton will be celebrating Christmas in July. There will be special one-day bell ringing at three local grocery stores from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Christmas in July event is intended to help bring awareness to the on-going need for support at The Salvation Army in Clinton. Volunteers will be ringing at Hy-Vee, Fareway and Jewel to help raise funds for the summer camp ministry.
"We want to thank our friends at Hy-Vee, Fareway and Jewel for partnering with us and we hope to raise money to support the summer camp ministry of The Salvation Army that gives hundreds of kids each week an opportunity to get away for a few days and enjoy things like sports, crafts, swimming, high ropes courses, and more," said Lt. Justin Hartley.
Just last month, from June 24 to July 1, six kids from Clinton had the opportunity to join 170 other kids from the central Illinois and eastern Iowa region for a music camp. Two of the kids brought back awards. Kennedy Carber won 3rd place in the Songbirds Choir, and Amie Douglas won 3rd place in the Cardinal Band solo contest as well as 2nd place in the Cardinal Band. "We are very proud of our kids and they did a wonderful job," said Hartley.
