DUBUQUE — Gallery C is proud to announce Modern Feminine, an exhibition featuring the artwork of Amanda Steines. Steines’ acrylic paintings, pastels and drawings can be described as elegant and bold.
She uses vivid colors and a variety of subtle and striking lines to represent the parts of daily life that inspire her. Steines is particularly inspired by the women she encounters and chooses to depict them as she sees them – independent, strong and graceful. This exhibition highlights her most recent body of work.
Steines spent the first 18 years of her life in Bellevue – a small town nestled along the Mississippi River. She began drawing at a young age, and continued her education at Iowa State University, where she studied apparel design and art. After college, Steines continued to improve her skills while living in Des Moines, and later San Diego. Both cities helped to shape her aesthetics and confidence. After getting her fill of sunshine and tamales in San Diego, she decided it was time to move home and get serious about her art. Today, Steines is growing her portfolio and fulfilling commissions while working from a cozy studio in the country.
Gallery C is pleased to host the artist at an opening reception on Feb. 2 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for February’s First Friday event.
