USTA Jr. Team Tennis allows for participants to compete with and against individuals of similar skill and age levels.

Players participate in a league format administered and run by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and its 17 Sections. USTA Jr. Team Tennis had over 80,000 participants taking part across the United States, in all 17 USTA Sections in 2009. Teams are divided by age and play levels falling into one of several age groups: U12, U14, U16 and U18. Play levels are divided among beginner, intermediate and advanced, all of which are offered at the local level. Each year the USTA crowns a national champion in two age divisions (U14 and U18) in both the Intermediate and Advanced play divisions. The National Championships serves as the crown jewel of USTA Jr. Team Tennis as the nation's top teams compete for the title. Players with an NTRP of 3.0 and below compete in the Intermediate division. Players with an NTRP of 3.5 and above compete in the Advanced division.
