Several local men were honored recently at the Iowa State Basketball Tournament, and we’d like to take a moment to recognize them for the accomplishment.
Lenny Weih and Bob Burns of Clinton were inducted into the Officials’ Hall of Fame. Rick Pogemiller of Bellevue was honored with a school administrator award.
Former Camanche coach John Harlson, who starred for Thompson in the late 1960s, and former Maquoketa coach Bill Fleming were inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
It was great to see so many men from the Gateway area recognized for their contributions to the game over the years, especially with local teams — Northeast and Bellevue Marquette — playing at this year’s tournament and showing all of Iowa the quality of basketball played in this corner of the state.
Congratulations to those honored — what a remarkable achievement!
