CEDAR RAPIDS — Parents, teachers and students from across the state are invited to attend the 114th Iowa PTA Convention, a one-day event featuring several vendors and workshops ranging from PTA Leadership basics to student health and safety.
The event will be held Saturday, April 5, at the Cedar Rapids Community School District Educational Leadership and Support Center.
Dr. Bradley Buck, Director of the Iowa Department of Education, will deliver the keynote address during lunch on Saturday, April 5.
Tom Pease, children’s entertainer, will be presenting a workshop on how to “Let Every Child’s Voice Be Heard” and will also be the highlight of the Friday evening entertainment at the Cedar Rapids Public Library downtown location.
A workshop on basics of how to run a PTA, strategies to address conflict and how to build a relevant and modern PTA will be presented by National PTA President Elect Laura Bay. Specifics include how to attract new and diverse members, engage volunteers and meet the needs of your PTA Community.
Other workshops throughout the day, Saturday, include Parenting with 1-2-3 Magic, Iowa Schools “Meet the Challenge”, Keeping Children Safe in the Digital Age, and Drug Dangers and Our Kids’ Futures, presented by subject matter experts. In between workshops there will be more than a dozen vendors providing information for participants to take with them and use in their own lives or present to their PTA/school community.
To recognize the importance of arts in school, there will be a Reflections Arts in Education Reception.
