The funeral for James Allen “Jim” Potts, 80, of Woodward, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, Woodward. The Rev. Charlie Graves will officiate. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, in Lawson Cemetery, Yale. Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home, Woodward.
He was born May 13, 1929, in Yale to Dr. J.R. and Mable Dale Potts and died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, in Oklahoma City.
He moved with his family to Norman as a child, where he attended school and graduated from University High School. He attended two years at the University of Oklahoma. He enlisted in the Army, serving during the Korean War. Following his discharge he returned to Yale to work in the family business.
He married Elizabeth Ann Miller April 5, 1953, in Beggs. They made their home in Yale, where he continued to work in the natural gas distribution industry. She died Oct. 20, 1996.
He later married Anita Brady Sept. 3, 2000, in Woodward, where they made their home. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club, charter member of Oklahoma State Film Commission, Woodward Community Theater and Yale Masonic Lodge. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was active in the church choir.
Surviving are his wife, Anita, of the home; two daughters, Gail Hernandez of El Paso, Texas, and Lynn Gamarra of Tulsa; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Beth, he was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Woodward First United Methodist Church building fund or Yale First United Methodist Church.
