Mary Lois Nield, resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Ponca City Nursing Home. She was 79.
The celebration of life will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at First Christian Church with the Rev. Larry B. Metzger officiating. Burial will precede the service at 11 a.m. in Resthaven Memorial Park, Ponca City, Okla. Arrange-ments are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, Ponca City.
Mary was born March 23, 1930, to Charles Ernest Frost and Mary Ruth Shirley Frost on a Shell Oil Co. lease near Garber, Okla. The family moved to various locations in Kansas and Oklahoma during Mary’s early years. The family settled in Tonkawa, where she graduated from high school in 1948 and received an associate’s degree from Northern Oklahoma Junior College in 1950.
She married Gerald Nield Nov. 1, 1958, in Ponca City, Okla. She worked as financial secretary for Ponca City Savings and Loan, retiring in 1985.
Mary was an active member of many civic and non-profit organizations. During her working years, she was a member of the Soroptimist Club. She served as a board member of the Child Development Center and as secretary of the Ponca City Community Concert Assoc-iation for more than 20 years. She also was a member of the Ponca City Music Club, 20th Century and P.E.O. (Chapter FC), and served as treasurer for the Wall Street Ladies Investment Club for a number of years. She was an active member of First Christian Church of Ponca City, serving as deacon and elder at various times. She was a member of the church board and served as head cashier for many years. She also served as a guide at the Marland Mansion.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Nield, of the home; three sisters, Connie Pitts of Ponca City, Ruth Ann Webb and husband Bill of Houston, Texas, and Betty Sala of Sacramento, Calif.; and nieces and nephews, Greg Pitts, Jeff Pitts, Scott Pitts, Mark Sala and Marianne Sala.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Joyce Marie Frost.
