Interest in Jackson’s music jumps locally

Following the death of Michael Jackson, interest in his music CDs locally seems to have increased.

“There’s been a lot of interest in his CDs,” said Patrick Neely, store manager of Hastings Books Music & Videos in Enid.

Though Hastings can’t release any information on numbers of sales, nearly all of Jackson’s CDs seem to be sold out on the company’s commercial Web site.

Both the “Gold” and “Essential Michael Jackson” CDs are listed as out-of-stock on the Web site. Another popular CD, “Thriller,” the 25th anniversary edition, also is listed as out-of-stock.

Hastings does provide a feature on its Web site where Michael Jackson songs or albums can be downloaded in mp3 format.

As opposed to actual CDs, songs available for download can never be “sold out.”

A variety of Michael Jackson memorabilia can be found on eBay.

A DVD collection of his music was being bid for at $75 at 4:30 p.m. Friday. A T-shirt displaying “1958-2009” on it was bringing a bid of around $26 as well.
