Convoy route given

CLINTON — The Clinton County Sheriff's Office has announced the route that will be taken by the MVPA 2009 Transcontinental Motor Convoy on Sunday through Clinton County.

This information is being given to assist motorists in avoiding traffic delays and to assist citizens that may want to see the convoy as it goes through their area.

The convoy will enter Clinton from Illinois around 11 a.m. via the Iowa 136 Bridge. The vehicles will be staged on the dike for approximately two hours. The convoy will leave Clinton by traveling north on Second Street to 13th Avenue North and going west.

Thirteenth Avenue North will become 220th Street as it leaves the city limits. Once the convoy enters Elvira, the procession will turn south on 380th Ave (Z 36) to U.S. 30 west. After reaching Lake Malone, the vehicles will turn onto 245th Street (Old Hwy 30) and travel into DeWitt.

Also, 245th Street becomes 11th Street in DeWitt by the high school. After arriving at Fifth Avenue on the east side of Lincoln Park, the convoy will travel one block south before turning west onto 10th Street (by the DeWitt Community Center). The procession will remain on 10th Street until exiting back onto 11th Street by the hospital.

The group will travel U.S. 30 to Grand Mound and exit onto DeWitt Street (by the car wash). A left turn will be made onto East Street (county road Y-54) and continue southbound until turning right onto Sunnyside Street (by the ballpark). The motorcade will then continue west onto county gravel road 245th Street; south on 220th Ave.; and west on 250th Street; north on 190th Avenue (county road Y 52) and the west on 245th Street into Calamus.

Once in Calamus, the convoy will enter going north on Fifth Street; west on Main Street (by water tower); north on Second Street (past the post office); west on Spring Street; north on Davenport Street and exit onto westbound U.S. 30 by the convenience store.

The procession will exit U.S. 30 via 142nd Avenue going north and then turning west on 235th Street (Old Hwy 30) to come into Wheatland by the nursing home. The convoy will stay on East Lincolnway and remain westbound leaving Wheatland on West Lincolnway (county road Z 24).

The motorcade will be turned over to representatives of the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office at the Clinton/Cedar County line.
