Miss Clinton County crowns to be awarded Saturday
CLINTON — The Miss Clinton County Scholarship program will award four new crowns Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. at the Durgin Center at Ashford University.
A new Lil Miss Clinton County, Junior Miss Clinton County, Clinton County’s Outstanding Teen and Miss Clinton County will be crowned. All will have the opportunity to compete on the state level in June 2010. The theme of the evening is “Red Carpet Oscars” and the emcee for the event is Carissa Evans. The current titleholders will also be participating in the program.
They are — Miss Clinton County, Sarah Hythecker, fourth runner-up Miss Iowa; Outstanding Teen, Taylor Wiebers, second runner-up to Iowa’s Outstanding Teen and Academic Achievement award; Jr. Miss Clinton County, Molly McDonald, second runner-up to Jr. Miss Iowa; Lil Miss Clinton County, Alexis Burken.
The new Miss Clinton County will receive — $16,000 total scholarship from Ashford University, paid toward tuition at Ashford, $4,000 renewable over four years; two years tuition from Clinton Community College, paid toward tuition at Clinton Community College, $3,500 renewable for two years; the Miss Clinton County Board scholarship, $800; Clinton Riverboat Days scholarship, $500.
There are also several special scholarships from Necker’s Jewelers, Clinton Printing and Gateway Travel and Cruise.
All contestants will receive prizes from Clinton County local merchants. Tickets are $10 which are available at the door or in advance at Clinton Printing. The official photographer for the Miss Clinton County Scholarship Program is Lieferman Photography and Clinton Floral is the official florist.
Lil Miss Clinton County
n Sarah Osaro, 7, is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Osaro of Clinton. She attends Camanche Elementary school where she has won a good student award. Her talent is tap dance.
n Meghan Marie Hill, 6, is the daughter of Josh and Jodi Hill of Clinton. She attends Eagle Heights Elementary School and her favorite subject is reading. She will dance for her talent.
n Macy Lea Jane Mulholland, 8, is the daughter of Laurie Mulholland and Jason Mulholland of Clinton. She attends Eagle Heights Elementary School where she has won a reading award. Her talent is tap dance.
Junior Miss Clinton County
n Danyka Jaeger, 9, is the daughter of Jason and Kathryn Jaeger of Clinton. She attends Eagle Heights School. She has studied ballet for five years and this will be her talent. Her community service project is to raise donations and participate on a team for the Relay for Life this August.
n Kylie Renee Moore, 10, is the daughter of Paul and Jennifer Moore of DeWitt. She attends Ekstrand Elementary School where she is on the Student Council. Kylie’s talent will be a hip-hop dance. She has studied dance for four years. Her community service project is teaching the proper care for pets.
n Nicole Renee Petersen, 11, is the daughter of Brent and Robin Petersen of DeWitt. She attends Central Middle School where she has won several physical fitness awards. Nicole lives on a farm and loves animals, which helped her to choose the Humane Society as her community service project.
Clinton County’s Outstanding Teen
n Alice Elizabeth Lind, 12, is the daughter of Gregg and Sarah Lind of Clinton. She attends Lyons Middle School where she is on the honor roll and participates in choir, yearbook, orchestra and basketball. She has had training in dance, music and art. She will perform a violin solo for her talent. Her platform is “Kids for the Future” which she would be a positive role model for younger children.
n Margaret Moira Ann Gehlsen, 13, is the daughter of Tim and Nancy Gehlsen of DeWitt. She will be in ninth grade at Central DeWitt High School. Maggie has earned many awards in baton which she has studied for seven years. She has also participated in music, dance and tumbling. She will perform a baton showtwirl. Her platform is “Fit for Life: a Choice made Early” which encourages healthy, active lifestyle decisions.
Miss Clinton County
n JaCi Waldorf, 22, is the daughter of Tyla Kelly of Camanche. Her talent will be vocal and her career ambition is to obtain a Bachelors of Exercise Science and become a wellness professional. Her platform is “Eat Well. Move Well. Think Well.”
n Marlee Hart, 18, is the daughter of Dennis and Sandy Hart of Camanche. Her talent is vocal and her platform is breast cancer research and awareness. She would like to obtain a Bachelors in Nursing and then continue her education to become a nurse practitioner.
n Betty Maisenbach, 18, is the daughter of Kevin and Kristi Maisenbach of Camanche. Her talent is vocal and she would like to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Communications. Her platform is “Eating Disorder Awareness — The warning signs.”
n Katy Suzanne Paulsen, 18, is the daughter of Dale and Janet Paulsen of Davenport. Her talent is baton show twirl and she would like to earn a business degree. Her platform is “Safe Surfing: Internet Education/Awareness.”
