Camanche High School drama dept. to present ‘Bye, Bye Birdie’

CAMANCHE — The Camanche High School drama department will present the Broadway musical, “Bye, Bye Birdie,” by Charles Strouse, starting Friday.

The show will take place Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Camanche High School’s little theater. Admission for students and senior citizens is $4, and $6 for adults. No passes will be permitted because of copyright restrictions.

“Bye, Bye Birdie,” is a musical that starts with rock and roll legend Conrad Birdie getting drafted for war.

Before he services his tour of duty, though, his agents, Albert and Rosie, set up a televised broadcast in Sweet Apple, Ohio, where Birdie will plant one last kiss on Kim MacAfee, president of the Sweet Apple Chapter of the Conrad Birdie Fan Club.

There is one problem, though. Kim is going steady with Hugo Peabody who isn’t too keen on this kiss and the peer pressure is getting to him.
