Focusing on Fall Festival

FULTON — Autumn is typically recognized by the leaves changing colors and temperatures dropping to the mid 60s, but for Fulton residents, they know autumn has arrived when the city prepares for its Fulton Fall Festival celebration.

The 13th annual Fulton Fall Festival will commence at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in the downtown district of Fulton. The event will last until 4 p.m., but adults are encouraged to return to enjoy time with friends at the beer gardens featured at Denny O’s and Johnnie’s Tap, two Fulton city staples.

During the day it is all about family, though, and the Fulton Chamber of Commerce has made the entertainment opportunities nearly endless.

“Fulton’s Fall Festival is organized by a four person committee in the Chamber to help boost our local economy,” Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Heather Bennett said. “It’s really just ambition by the Chamber board to have more happening in our downtown.”

That ambition is what has grown the Fall Festival from a small gathering of pumpkin painting, to a day-long celebration of the city of Fulton.

People attending the festival will get to experience a multitude of arts and crafts shows, a petting zoo, scavenger hunt, a number of local bake sales and of course the tradition of pumpkin painting.

“The very first year we just handed out painted pumpkins, and 13 years later it has grown into this,” Bennett said. “It’s still not as big as Dutch Days, but it continues to grow.”

The real beauty of the event though, according to Bennett, is that aside from the food, nearly everything is free. Only the kiddie train rides and the Straw Bale Maze cost anything, together maxing out at a total of $3.

But, not everything is aimed to please the children of the community. There are many scheduled events that will get people of all ages excited to attend.
