Felix Adler Day crowd enjoys 25th year (with VIDEO and PHOTO ALBUM)

The parking lot of the Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center was packed Saturday with animals, inflatables, carnival games, clowns, festival food and smiling faces.

Video: Felix Adler Day kicked off at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Despite early obstacles, organizer Sarah Lind deemed the 25th Annual Felix Adler Day festival to be a success. The event’s showcase stage performances, which were set to begin at 9:30 a.m. when the festival began, started approximately 45 minutes late due to mechanical issues with a generator needed to power the sound system. However, Lind and other volunteers called around the community to get the generator working. By 11:30, when the River City Municipal Band was set to play, the events were back on schedule.

“We will put on the show, no matter what,” Lind said.

Since the festival does not charge admission, Lind did not know how many people attended Felix Adler Days. However, the festival does sell $5 punch cards for families to use at the petting zoo, pony rides and various games. Just a little after 11 a.m., the festival had sold almost all of the approximately 1,000 punch cards and volunteers began printing more.

“But it’s a nice problem to have,” Lind said.

Families from both Clinton and surrounding communities attended the festival, with children riding the ponies, petting animals and climbing and jumping in inflatables. Mark Mattson and his family drove from Erie, Illinois, for the festival, as they have for the past few years.

“They do a really good job,” Mattson said.
