Things to do

(Continued)

“The American Legion of Iowa is involved in many areas that are of concern to every community in Iowa,” said Schaffer. “Along with fighting for the health and education benefits for all military veterans and today’s soldiers, the American Legion of Iowa hosts a number of programs that most communities don’t even realize we are doing.”

The American Legion is often the first call when a veteran passes away in a community, so that proper military honors are provided. They also are a reliable source for information concerning service-connected injuries/illnesses and claims. The organization further provides emergency funds for our veterans’ families, works to provide scholarship opportunities to the children and youth, and educate schools about the proper respect for our U.S. flag.

For more information about the 2nd District’s Spring Conference, contact Don Arns at (563) 381-1373 or email vc.2ialegion@gmail.com.

• The “Let’s Get Moving!” Wellness Fair will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the YWCA. The event is free to the community.

“Let’s Get Moving!” participants will enjoy free fitness classes, with a new class starting every 45 minutes. The Fitness Center will be open with staff available to assist visitors with equipment. Vendor booths will be available to visit with free health screenings including body fat analysis, blood pressure screenings, blood glucose screenings and body postural analysis. Chair massages will be available through Tricia Peterson of Rejuvenation Station, as well as free flavored coffees from Red Rose Coffee.

The YWCA’s action packed program features an array of fitness classes to enjoy including Boot Camp, Athletic Assault, ZUMBA, Yoga, Stretch Fitness, Indoor Cycling and more. The day will also have opportunities to relax and “recharge your batteries” with mini-meditation sessions with Marcia Flory R.N., Usui Reiki Master Teacher. There will also be a “No Way to 5K” running seminar, for those wishing to get started running, offered at 10 am. Visit the Events page of the YWCA website for a complete class listing and schedule of events at www.ywcaclinton.org.
