CAST opens 2014 season

CLINTON — The Clinton Area Showboat Theatre opens its 2014 Season with “The Taffetas,” a tribute to the 1950s-era music of such groups as The Fontane Sisters and the McGuire Sisters.

In the style of the popular show Forever Plaid, The Taffetas takes us to the television debut of Kaye, Peggy, Cheryl and Donna, a doo-wop group of sisters who sing all the hits of the 1950s. Songs include favorites: “Sh-Boom,” “Mr. Sandman,” “Lollipop,” “Where the Boys Are,” and many more. Opening June 5, The Taffetas runs through June 15 at the Showboat.

Carly Ann Berg, returning to the Showboat for her second summer, will portray the role of Cheryl. She graduated in May from Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, with a BFA in Musical Theatre. Showboat patrons may remember Carly as Amalia in She Loves Me.

Three newcomers to the Showboat stage will play the other sisters. Jenna Haimes (Kaye) graduated with a BFA in Music Theatre from Illinois Wesleyan University. She is from Conifer, Colorado, a mountain town outside of Denver. Heather Baisley (Peggy) will be a senior musical theatre major at Rider University in New Jersey. Originally from Pine Bush, New York, she was a Lab Academy Actor at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, New York, last summer and performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade opening number with Stagedoor Manor. Playing the role of Donna, Sarah Randall is currently a senior Musical Theatre major at Western Illinois University. Sarah is originally from White Hall, Illinois.

Directing and choreographing The Taffetas is Brian Cowing, in his fourth summer at the Showboat. Last summer Brian directed/choreographed Forever Plaid and Godspell. Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Brian will be joining the National Tour of Annie!

Wm. Perry Morgan is musical director for this show. New Jersey’s community theater awards are named “The Perry Awards” in his honor and are presented every September at a gala ceremony. Morgan, whose theatrical credits span the country, currently teaches and directs at Greensboro College in North Carolina.
