CAST's new season unveiled

CLINTON — The Clinton Area Showboat Theatre revealed the schedule for the 2013 season which includes old classics and new favorites alike at the second Follies production Tuesday.

The season includes four musicals, one play and one intern production.

The Follies review highlighted the musical performances of the professional cast as well as local students from the intern program.

The show included a selection from “Honk, Jr.,” performed by the interns. In addition to songs from the 2013 season, a wide variety of music was performed by this summer’s visiting actors and staff members, accompanied by music director Drew Wutke.

“Forever Plaid” will kick off the 2013 season in early June with a four-man barbershop quartette.

“It’s such a classic,” Artistic Director Tommy Iafrate said. “It’s high energy and fun!”

“Godspell” will follow with classic songs like “Day by Day” and “Beautiful City.” “Sound of Music” will follow, being brought back to the Showboat after eight years. “She Loves Me” finishes off the musicals with the story that the movie, “You’ve got Mail” is based on. “Almost, Maine” will be the play of the season with a scene cycle production, that consists of several two person scenes with alternating characters.

“It’s such a charming project,” Iafrate said. “It’s such a beautiful piece. It’s the sweetest thing you will ever see.”

The intern play for the upcoming season will be “School House Rock Live.” With the interest in theater by youngsters, the Showboat will offer two summer camps next summer instead of one, like usual. Overall, the 2013 season will be family friendly, according to Iafrate.
