CLINTON — The Clinton Humane Society will host a one-of-a-kind 2-mile canine run/walk to benefit the shelter Saturday, Sept. 21.
Mutts on the Mississippi is the only bi-state canine run/walk in the country, with all proceeds going to benefit the Clinton Humane Society. Participants and their four-legged friends will begin in Fulton, Ill., and will follow the designated course across the Mighty Mississippi River into Iowa, finishing at Lyons Foursquare Park in Clinton.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. sharp on Saturday morning.
In addition to the race itself, Mutts on the Mississippi will host special events, including a professional agility course demonstration, a canine costume contest, raffles, unicyclist, balloon animal artist, a variety of local dog-related merchandise, as well as area vendors.
Each participant will receive a Mutts on the Mississippi T-shirt and exclusive stuffed goodie bag.
Each canine partner will be presented with their very own commemorative event bandana.
The Iowa 136 Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic the day of the event, giving race participants a unique opportunity to cross into Iowa among a crowd of other people and dogs.
Those attending the event may park on the Iowa side of the river at Main Avenue and Harding Street in Clinton.
A shuttle will be available to take participants and their dogs over the river to the starting line in Fulton.
Participants are encouraged to attend a welcome reception and pick up their packets on Friday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Clinton.
Guests will enjoy hors d’oeurves, receive event information, and have the chance to meet other participants at the reception.
Late registration also will take place during this time.
Race participants may register online at www.clintonhumanesociety.org.
All dogs must have proof of rabies vaccination in order to participate.
