Early-Out Think Team program

CLINTON — Enrollment is now being taken for the first session of the Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center’s new weekly afterschool program, “Wednesday Early-Out Think Team.”

It’s a great place for your child’s brain to be during Wednesday early-out days.

This educational program is open to children in kindergarten through third grade. Space is limited. With a curriculum designed and led by professional educators, the Think Team program will introduce children to many different topics in science, history, math and culture — all taught with a literacy emphasis.

Participants will keep their own journals and share their writing in small groups. Positive communication and respectful behavior will be the rule, and snacks will be included.

There will be three sessions of Wednesday Early-Out Think Team offered during the school year, which will coincide with Clinton School District’s trimester schedule. Session I will run on Wednesdays, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Sept. 4 through Nov. 6.

Children may ride the bus from their respective schools or parents may bring them at 2 p.m. Dismissal and pick-up time is promptly at 3:30 p.m. The cost of this program is $75 per session. Children’s Discovery Center members receive a 10 percent discount. For more information or registration contact the Children’s Discovery Center at 243-3600 or email to info@adlerdiscoverycenter.org.

The Discovery Center is 501 (3)(c) non-profit children’s museum affiliated with the international Association of Children’s Museums. Its mission is to provide a safe and positive environment for families to discover the world by exploring arts, culture, literacy, and science through educational programs and interactive exhibits.

Bow Wow Luau is Sunday

CLINTON — ABC’s eighth annual Bow Wow Luau will be Sunday, Aug. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Riverview Swimming Pool along the riverfront in Clinton.

This is a chance for dogs and their owners to share the experience of splashing and swimming together, and supports a really great cause at the same time. There is a $6 per dog admission fee with all proceeds going towards Animal Birth Control.

During this event, dogs will be off leash, but must be under their owner’s control at all times. Wading pools will be available for the very small breeds. Waste bags will be available, and owners are required to pickup after their dogs. Please bring your own towels. And don’t forget your camera — there will be tons of opportunities for great pictures.

ABC will also have Jaime from Grooming by Jaime on site offering free nail trims for your dogs. Donations would be accepted, with those going to Animal Birth Control.

There will also be a lemonade stand with lemonade, cookies and snacks for sale by ABC members with proceeds going to the ABC Yager Fund. The Yager Fund helps with emergency vet bills and has been funded by donations alone, but is now getting depleted.

Animal Birth Control is a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for area pets. The luau is one of its biggest events.

For more information, call Judy at 243-6276. This event is co-sponsored by ABC and the Clinton Department of Parks and Recreation.
