CAMANCHE — The Camanche Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce that Brooke Asmussen, a third-grade student at Camanche Elementary School, was selected as the second-place winner in the Iowa Fireman’s Association Annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest.
Brooke’s entry, along with other local entries from third and fourth grade students, was sent on to compete at the state level. This contest involved 74 departments from across the state of Iowa and more than 150 entries to judge.
In order to be considered at the state level, the contestant must receive first place at the local level.
“The third and fourth grade students look forward to participating in our local Fire Prevention Poster Contest each year and always do a great job,” said Camanche Elementary School art teacher Linda Hahn. “We are so excited to have a winner at the state level.”
Brooke, along with her parents, Robert and Kim Asmussen, attended an all-school awards assembly at Camanche Elementary School where Fire Chief Dave Schutte and Assistant Chief Bob Alm presented her with a framed certificate of recognition from the Iowa Fireman’s Association.
“Brook is a very creative artist, so it’s no surprise she placed at the state competition,” Hahn said. “We are all very proud of her accomplishment.”
Brook received $50 for her winning entry. The Camanche Fire Department also benefited from her hard work, receiving $50 toward fire prevention for submitting her entry.
“We are very proud of Brooke and her second place finish and appreciate the $50 for fire prevention from her efforts,” stated Schutte. “We’ve had some great success at the state level recently and have some very talented kids in our elementary school. We appreciate the school, staff and especially Mrs. Hahn for incorporating this program into her class.”
