‘Germinators’ present Operation Pride award to garden

— SAVANNA, Ill. — The Germinators Garden Club has presented its first “Operation Pride” award to Elmer Meyers of 1717 Portland Ave., Savanna, Ill.
The landscaping category nomination was submitted by Linda Frerichs, club president. Meyers moved into the house about a year and a half ago and has done a lot to renovate the house and property. The landscaping includes Weeping Pine, Blue Spruce, River Birch, Globe Colorado Spruce trees as well as hydrangeas and many other perennials. The nomination stated how much Mrs. Frerichs enjoyed her drive back and forth watching the transformation, and that it makes her neighborhood look “even better.”
The Operation Pride committee members judging the entry were Judy Redding of Mount Carroll, Dean Brackemyer of Fulton, Ill., and Susan Sites of Savanna. Meyers received the Operation Pride award-of-the-month sign to display in his yard for the month of June. He will also receive a one-year membership to The Germinators Garden Club.
The Germinators Garden Club Operation Pride award is available for outstanding and beautiful gardens and landscaping in the Savanna, Mount Carroll, Thomson, Fulton, and Clinton communities. The remaining Operation Pride awards will be given in the months of July, August, September and October of this year.
Here’s how to nominate a garden or landscape:
n Submit a letter with the property owner’s name, location/address, and property owner's phone number;
n The reason for the nomination;
n Name of person submitting the nomination and contact phone number;
n To: The Germinators Garden Club c/o Linda Frerichs, 2006 Portland Ave., Savanna, IL 61074-2654
Submissions must be postmarked by the 15th of each month to be considered for the next month's award.
The next Germinators Garden Club meeting will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Golden Wok, Fulton. Dean Brackemyer will present a program on “Cacti and Other Succulents.” Guests are welcome to attend. For additional information contact Frerichs at (815) 273-2567.
