CLINTON — The Martin Luther King Jr. celebration committee is currently looking for nominations for its Peace and Justice award.
This will be the 12th year that the award will be presented at the celebration. Prior recipients of the MLK Peace and Justice award include Sisters of Saint Francis, Vinson Jetter, LaMetta Wynn, YWCA, Maudi Walton, Tiffany Harris, Brian Guy and, most recently, Dina White.
This year’s celebration will be held at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at Ashford University’s Kehl Arena. The celebration will feature radio talk show host and political activist Joe Madison. Madison has served on the NAACP’s national board of directors, led four separate voter registration marches, and has traveled to Sudan on three separate occasions to help free more than 7,000 slaves and deliver survival kits to refugees.
A nomination form for the Peace and Justice award may be downloaded from the Events page of the YWCA website at ywcaclinton.org or at the YWCA front desk. Nomination forms must be submitted by Monday, Dec. 16, with voting by the MLK Celebration committee scheduled for Dec. 18.
