The fifth annual Run for the Red 5K run and health walk will be Nov. 18 and will benefit the Gateway Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The run/walk registration, post-race activities and blood drive will be held at the DeWitt Fitness Center. The 5K run and health walk will begin at noon at the DeWitt Fitness Center, on the corner of 14th Street and Eighth Avenue. Attendees will follow a predetermined course through a residential section of DeWitt. Late registration for the run/walk will end at 11:45 a.m. Registration forms are available at the DeWitt Fitness Center or the Gateway Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. The entry fee is $20 through Oct. 31 or $25 through the day of the event. The first 200 participants will receive a long-sleeve moisture wicking shirt; trophies and medals will be awarded to race winners by division. Door prizes and refreshments will be available through area businesses. All participants, volunteers, presenting blood donors and supporters can enter a drawing to win a digital camera. Participants will have access to DeWitt Fitness Center showers and fitness center after the race.
In conjunction with the Run for the Red, the Red Cross will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the DeWitt Fitness Center racquetball courts. All presenting donors will receive a Thanksgiving pie. Appointments can be made by calling 242-5223 or visiting Redcrossblood.org.
The Gateway Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, a United Way agency, provides services to residents of Clinton and Jackson counties in Iowa and the western portion of Whiteside County in Illinois.
