---- — CLINTON — Prince of Peace Schools parents and administration are creating a “mysterious” masquerade ball this weekend to benefit the school.

A group of Prince of Peace volunteers gathered together 17 years ago and decided to put on an Irish auction. Each year since then, hundreds of people have attended the annual fundraiser.

“It’s always been a well-attended auction. Even from the beginning the attendance has always been between 200 and 400,” Irish Auction Co-chairwoman Karen Moeller said.

The annual auction will offer “A Mysterious Night at the Masquerade Ball,” beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Wild Rose Casino and Resort, 777 Wild Rose Drive. The event will feature a social hour and silent auction at 5 p.m., a dinner and live auction at 6:30 p.m., complimentary beer and wine until 9 p.m. and a cash bar throughout the night. For the first time ever, a dance will follow the live auction. Tickets to the auction are $40 per person or $400 for a table of 10. Those wishing to attend must register by Tuesday by calling 242-1663.

Prince of Peace Schools Development Director Karen Witt and Moeller emphasized what an important fundraiser the auction is for the school.

“When you’re a private school, you have to find funding other than tuition,” Witt said. “This money actually helps pay the bills for the schools”

Witt and Moeller agreed the fundraiser is a popular event, which brings the school and community together. Each class works together to create a special themed basket for the auction.

“And the children are filled in so much pride when the items are brought in and the baskets are put together,” Moeller said.

This year’s auction list, which can be viewed by visiting, includes 21 live auction packages and 94 silent auction packages.

“We have some of our old favorites, but we also have some new and unique items,” Moeller said.

This year, those who cannot attend the auction do not have to miss out on a special item. For the first time ever, these individuals can call the school’s office and arrange a proxy bidder.
