---- — CLINTON — Prince of Peace band students recently returned from a trip that included a performance for a Mardi Gras parade. Twenty-three members of the Prince of Peace high school band joined with the Maquoketa High School marching band to perform in Mardi Gras parades in Houma, La. The eighty-four students, band directors and chaperones traveled by bus to Houma to march in two parades.
The first parade was held March 2 under sunny skies and 80 degree temperatures. The band marched 5 miles through the streets of Houma, which boasts itself as the second largest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States, second to New Orleans.
All bands scheduled to march in the next parade on March 4 withdrew participation due to nearly freezing temperatures and rain.
The Maquoketa High School band has invited Prince of Peace to join their trip to Houma in 2009 and now in 2014.
