---- — CLINTON — As if taking a line from the movie “Forrest Gump,” one man is spreading his message of kindness and patriotism in an unorthodox way — by walking across the United States.
With his staff of American flags in hand, Armand Young has walked from California to New York and on Tuesday he stopped in Clinton on his way back to the West Coast.
Along his journey, Young has met thousands of people who share their stories of struggle and triumph, and commit themselves to doing one small act of kindness by signing his flags and spreading his message.
“Every signature is a promise to do an act of kindness in the next 24 hours in honor of someone who died in 9/11,” Young said.
His adventure has been on and off since April 16, 2007, when he began the journey. Since his last break, Young has walked from his hometown of Charles Town, W. Va., for 105 consecutive days to arrive in Clinton.
His walk is more than just spreading kindness. It also is about his advocacy for the remembrance of 9/11 and his passion for his American bretheran.
“Each step is for a soldier who can’t walk, and each mile is for a person who lost their life during 9/11,” Young said.
