When Ivy Walters, 25, came out of the anesthesia from her C-section, she held her newest child, Novalee Alexandra Walters, for the first time.
“She was beautiful, amazing,” Ivy said. “ I can’t stop staring.”
Born at 7:50 a.m. Jan. 2, Novalee officially is Clinton’s first baby of the new year. Even with her C-section scheduled for Jan. 2, Ivy never expected her daughter — weighing 6 pounds and 1.1 ounces and measuring 20 1/2 inches long — to be the area’s first baby of 2014.
A few of Ivy’s other friends were due at approximately the same time as her. One friend, who was due near Christmas, went over by a couple weeks and another had her baby Dec. 31.
With one other girl and three boys, this stay-at-home mother was more concerned about how her children would react and she was excited about finally having a second girl. She remembers finding out the baby’s gender at 18 or 20 weeks.
“I made them triple check. I was like, ‘ Are you sure? Are you sure? Are you sure?’” Ivy said.
Knowing that Novalee will be her last child, Ivy said she is just “soaking up” her time with her.
“I don’t think words can even explain anything I want to say,” Ivy said.
Ivy’s other children include Hayle, 8; Jayden, 5; Dominic, 4; and Dustin Jr, 3. She said her youngest, Dustin Jr., knew his Mommy had a baby in her belly, but is still mystified by the whole process. Even with Novalee born, he still thinks there is a baby in her belly.
Ivy’s children absolutely love the newest addition to their family. She added that her 4-year-old really adores his little sister.
“He wakes up at 5:30 in the morning, jumps up and jumps right to her bed. I think he’s held her more than I have,” Ivy said. “The boys can’t stop holding her.”
