---- — CLINTON — The Clinton Public Library, the Felix Adler Children's Discovery Center and the YWCA are working together this summer to provide fun and affordable entertainment for families all around the Clinton area.

Discovery Center Director Sarah Lind said the non-profit organizations decided to put forth an effort to work together on creating a system that will recognize each group and the activities they create.

"All of our missions are to enrich families to be healthier, smarter and to increase the quality of life. Why not work together on that?" Lind said.

Amy Birtell, Clinton Public Library director, coined the phrase "Treasure in a Block" to recognize the convenience of having all three organizations in a close area.

"The city bus system has a drop-off stop one block away from the activity (center) and parking is close by with about 100 parking spots available," Birtell said in a letter to the editor.

She said the idea behind "Treasure in a Block" is to support events that each group hosts by adding a little extra from the remaining two groups.

An example of how these groups are working together is the planning of Felix Adler Day on June 22.

The Discovery Center will offer free admission and a $5 dollar punch card for pony rides, a petting zoo, inflatables, face painting and balloon animals while the YWCA will offer free admission to afternoon swimming.

The library also will have a booth set up at the Discovery Center to get in the mix of the day.

Each individual organization has a number of events planned for the summer and if all goes well, Birtell said, the idea of teaming up will evolve into something bigger and better that will benefit everyone.

"It is only in the infant stages and will grow as we get to know each other," Birtell said. "This block has a lot of great things going on here and we want to work together on this."
