---- — CLINTON — A burn ban has been declared for Clinton County due to extremely dry conditions.

Clinton County Emergency Management Services placed the county under a burn ban at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Coordinator Chance Kness said a majority of area fire chiefs decided that conditions are too dangerous to allow open burning.

“Conditions are dry and certainly a fire is more dangerous at this time,” Kness said.

This ban does not prohibit a supervised, controlled burn for which a permit has been issued by the fire chief of the fire district where the burn will take place. Also allowed are outdoor fireplaces, barbecue grills, properly supervised landfills, or the burning of trash in incinerators or trash burners made of metal, concrete, masonry, or heavy one-inch wire mesh, with no openings greater than one square inch.

The burn ban will remain under affect until further notice.
