Women’s Connection honors two Ashford University students

CLINTON — Nkemdilim Okwumabua and Brittany Zinser, Ashford University students, were among 15 regional women who were recently honored as emerging women leaders for their leadership initiative and academic achievement and for making a difference in their school and community by the Women’s Connection.

On Jan. 23, 350 women leaders gathered for the Women’s Connection “Women in Leadership” event featuring U.S. District Judge Sara Darrow on the topic, “Find Your Voice: Perspectives on Passion in Life and Leadership.”

Okwumabua, who is from Rockford, Ill., and Zinser, who hails from Cincinnati, joined fellow Ashford University students Jerrika Castillo, Jordan Davis, Abbye Garcia, Cara Harmon, Renee LaFrentz and Heather McCue in receiving this honor.

“The purpose of Women’s Connection’s Emerging Women Leaders Recognition program is to raise up and honor regional female collegiate students who are excelling as leaders both academically and within their communities,” Nancy Renkes, Women’s Connection co-executive director, said. “We believe it’s important to bring along the next generation of women leaders.”

Through participation in the Emerging Women Leaders program, regional colleges and universities have the opportunity to honor its women leaders.

The mission of the Women’s Connection is to inspire, educate, connect and empower women.
