Fulton restaurant, gift shop to close

FULTON, Ill. — It is a sad time for ice cream lovers as two local ice cream shops are set to close.

Corner Treasures and Treats along with Cousins Sub’s/Freezer’s Ice Cream are shutting down in the near future due to lack of business.

Corner Treasures owners Anne and John Davis recently announced that they will be closing their gift and ice cream shop of three years. The location was formerly a pharmacy owned by Anne’s father. Treasures will remain open until the inventory runs out, according to Anne. While the shop remains open, all 14 flavors of ice cream and treats will be served.

“It’s really sad to close,” Anne said. “I wish the economy was better.”

The ice cream shop is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The gift shop is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Cousin’s Subs and Freezer’s Ice Cream, which opened in August 2000, will remain open through their last day Sunday.

The shop that offers a wide variety of sandwiches and salads along with sherbet and ice cream also had to shut down due to slow business. They are not having any specials, but supplies are limited, according to Assistant Manager Kelly Reyes. Cousin’s also offered catering services. Cousin’s and Freezer’s are open 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. today and Sunday.
