Finally Friday's fun at the riverfront draws to a close

CLINTON — Cars lined the riverfront and people milled around the Riverview Park Bandshell for the last in the Finally Friday concert series.

Finally Friday Committee Chairwoman Lori Susie said that out of the four full years the events has been going on, this has been the best September concert ever. She added that it can take some time for something like this to establish itself.

"And every year's gotten better," Susie said.

Friday night's crowd was composed of both long-time and first-time supporters of the concert series. Laura McKown of Clinton brings her 2-year-old granddaughter, Jordyn Cady, to all of the Finally Friday events. Jordyn could be found in front of the bandshell, dancing along to the music.

For Julie McCombs, Megan Danner and Rachelle Emineth, it was their first time attending the event. They primarily came to see The Unidynes perform.

For 2-month-old Otis Hensel, this was his first concert ever. His father, Steve, rocked him along with the music.

Committee Members Brenda Thornton and Barb Jacobsen said they are excited to offer the community a fun, free event. However, donations are accepted. Thornton said Friday was a perfect night for a concert.

"You couldn't find a more beautiful night than tonight," Thornton said.

The concert series is held from June to September, with the event on the first Friday of the month. The committee will meet next month to start planning next year's Finally Friday events.

"The crowds have exceeded themselves this year. And we want more and more and more," Jacobsen said.
