Fulton plans Christmas festivities

FULTON, Ill. — Christmas festivities will take to the streets of Fulton the first two weekends of December.

Heritage Canyon will celebrate with the Christmas Walk on Dec. 1 and downtown Fulton will celebrate with a walk on Dec. 7.

Pioneers will serve up treats and show off their trades at the Heritage Canyon event on Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an illuminated walk from 6 to 8 p.m. Other events include breakfast with Santa from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fulton Fire Station and children’s story hour 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Schmaling Public Library.

The eighth annual Fulton Christmas run/walk will be held in conjunction with Fulton’s downtown Christmas Walk on Dec. 7. Start time for the race will be 6:30 p.m. and registration will be held at Manny’s Too. The race route is 2 miles long and will begin at the corner of Fourth Street and 11th Avenue and end at Manny’s Too.

The route proceeds along the illuminated dike lit with hundreds of luminaries courtesy of the Fulton Boy Scouts.  

The first 175 registrants will receive an embroidered fleece beanie cap. Pre-registration cost is $14 before Nov. 27. After Nov. 27, registration cost is $20. To register, download a form at www.cityoffulton.us or register online at www.getmeregistered.com. Male and female race categories will have first, second and third place medal winners. The overall fastest male and female winners will receive a limited edition sweatshirt. Age groups for males and females are in increments of 10 years.

Other events in downtown Fulton include arts and crafts show at River Bend Senior Center, Ice Carving Demo, Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Masonic Lodge, live nativity with animals by Second Reformed Church,  puppet show,  gymnastics performances, train rides,  Olde World photo display of Christkindlmarkt, Riverside Brass quartet,  soup supper by Fulton Boy Scouts at River Bend Senior Center, treats and more.
