Christmas coming to Fulton

FULTON, Ill.— Businesses will be decked out with holiday decorations and the children’s train will run along Fourth Street in Fulton as “Christmas Comes To Town” on the weekend of Dec. 6.

The community will once again hold its annual Christmas walk. Tourism Director Heather Bennett estimated the event has been a part of the city’s holiday season for more than 25 or 30 years.

“The chamber has been heavily involved in organizing it for the last 13 years,” Bennett said. “It’s a really nice community event that is free.”

The event will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6, with a variety of activities. Whether shopping in the downtown area, or participating in some of the special activities, Bennett said the walk has a little bit of everything.

The Riverside Brass Quartet will play during the event and a live nativity scene will be displayed at 12th Avenue and Fourth Street. People can view gymnastic presentations at the Great River Gymnastic Studio. The Robert Fulton Community Center also will host a craft show during the walk and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 7.

Children will have a chance to talk to Santa and Mrs. Claus at Krumpets and the Grinch and “Gingy” from Shrek on the street. The children’s train will return to the event, with train rides starting at the community center. Children can also watch an ice sculptor at 11th Avenue and Fourth Street and a puppet show at the State Farm Agency.

“And everything’s in a two-block radius, so there’s not a lot of walking,” Bennett said.

For the ninth year, the 2-maile run/walk will start at 6:30. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. at Manny’s Too.

The cost for the run/walk is $14 before Monday and $20 after. Participants can register in advance by visiting the city’s website or the the Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
