Jones' pitching propels Fulton to win

FULTON, Ill. — Ethan Jones limited Riverdale to five hits as he pitched Fulton past Riverdale 7-2 on Monday in Three Rivers Conference baseball.

Jones struck out 13 batters and did not issue a walk as the Steamers improved to 4-5, 2-1 in Three Rivers play.

“Ethan was Ethan tonight, and that was great to see,” Fulton coach Kyle Miller said.

Riverdale took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Steamers responded with two in the bottom half of the inning and led the rest of the way.

Devon Ballard and Paul Velasco each drove in a pair of runs for the Steamers.

“The bats seem to be heating up, we again played flawless D,” Miller said. “It was a good win for us.”

PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Kallen Jepson drove in both runs as Erie/Prophetstown won a 2-1 pitchers dual against Sterling Newman on Monday in the Three Rivers Conference.

Jepson had two of the Panthers’ seven hits off losing pitcher Quincy Coomes). Erie/Prophetstown’s Jordan Chandler blanked Newman for 5 1/3 innings in relief of starter Ethan Howard.

The win lifted Erie/Prophetstown to 3-2, 2-0 in the conference.

Mustangs nipped

MORRISON, Ill. — Oregon made the most of its three hits, beating Morrison 2-1 on Monday in non-conference baseball action.

The Mustangs trailed 2-0 when Justin Jensen drove in their lone run in the sixth inning.
